Figg Cup Champion & Player of the Tournament 2023/24 – Harrison Burgess

Congratulations to A2’s skipper, Harrison Burgess who played an integral role in today’s Figg Cup (U21) Inter-association Grand Final. Batting first, the Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket Association team found themselves in real strife at 4/53 when Harry strode to the crease.

Partnering with Lobethal A Grader, Jeremy Hackett (99), Harry made 60 from 88 deliveries (a new career high!), featuring 6 fours & 1 six, as the two put on 137 for the 5th wicket to see the Association post an imposing 9/223 from their 50 overs. In reply, the Hills Cricket Association struggled mightily, bowled out for 142 with Harry collecting one (1) wicket.

Across the tournament’s three (3) matches, Harry finished as the AEHCA’s second leading runscorer with 83 runs @ 41.5 & the equal 2nd leading wicket-taker with 6 wickets @ 9.83 and was named Player of the Tournament. Great work Harold!

Younger brother Connor Burgess, in his 1st season of eligibility, served as 13th man (the representative carnivals are 12-a-side) but did play in one of the minor round matches.

We also had two (2) players participating in today’s Calaby Shield (U15) Grand Final, where Great Southern Cricket Association proved too good, David Bredenkamp and Jaxon Lynn. For the tournament, David, who was also the Captain, scored 50 runs @ 25 & took two (2) catches whilst Jacko scored 46 runs @ 23 and took three (3) catches.
