Welcome to our Junior Cricket page. We are a member of the Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket Association (AEHCA).
We are the reigning Premiers in Under 14’s and were also Under 16’s Premiers in 2023/24.
For the 2025/26 season we are fielding mixed teams in Under 16’s, Under 14’s (combined with Echunga), Under 12’s and Under 10’s, as well as a dedicated Under 13’s Girls team in the Strikers Girls Cricket League. We are also running the Cricket Blast program for children aged 4 to 9 during Term 4, 2025.
A short history of junior cricket at Wistow
Wistow has fielded teams in junior grades for every season since the then Mt Barker & Eastern Hills Cricket Association (MtBEHCA) first commenced an Under 16’s ‘Colts’ grade in 1970/71. Prior to the 1983/84 season, the MtBEHCA merged with the Alexandra Cricket Association to form the AEHCA and by the second half of the 1980s, the Colts competition had been expanded to include both Under 16’s and Under 13’s.
Commencing with the 1998/99 season, the Colts competition was again expanded to include teams in Under 16’s, Under 14’s and Under 12’s, with an Under 10’s competition (featuring modified rules) being added by the 2012/13 season.
We have won three (3) Under 16’s premierships, in 1978/79, 1986/87 & 2023/24 as well as a number of lower age premierships, including back-to-back Under 12’s SACA Lightning Carnival victories in 2013/14 and 2014/15.
At present we compete in junior cricket against fellow AEHCA sides from Ashbourne, Echunga, Hahndorf, Macclesfield, Mt Barker, Nairne, Langhorne Creek, Lenswood Ranges, Lobethal, Strathalbyn & Woodside, with Gumeracha (whose senior sides compete in the Torrens Valley Cricket Association) fielding an Under 10’s team together with Meadows & Onkaparinga (whose senior sides compete in the Hills Cricket Association (‘HCA’)). This season, our Under 16’s competition has also seen an influx of sides from the HCA, including Stirling, Onkaparinga, Uraidla & a combined Scott Creek/Ironbank/Aldgate side.
Playing times
Under 16’s and Under 14’s games are both played on Saturday mornings from 8.45am until approximately 11.15am whilst Under 12’s and Under 10’s are played on Friday evenings from 5.30pm until approximately 7.30pm.
The Cricket Blast program will be held on Thursday afternoons from 4.30pm to 5.30pm during Term 4, 2025, commencing on 16 October 2025.
