Senior Presentation Dinner – 24 March 2023

It’s Awards Season and on Friday night we headed over to our longtime sponsor, the Great Eastern Hotel Littlehampton for the 2022/23 end of season senior grades presentation dinner.

MC’d by President Brayden Leckie and attended by several living life members including Ken Nettle, Robin “Pud” Crompton & Michael “Pickle” Paech, we trust that a good night was had by all.

Plenty of hands were shaken with the following players taking home trophies in the A2’s – Travis Moose Lynn, Joshua Fidler, Mitch Richards and Jordan Grooby.

Meanwhile, the B Grade trophies were divided up between Jason Rehn, Clinton Smith, Clay Leckie, Matthew Cummins and Flynn Samardzic (absent).

A special mention has to go out to A2’s captain Joshua Fidler who not only took home the Association awards for A2 Grade leading wicket taker and best allrounder (in addition to numerous WCC A2 Grade awards) but who also won the WCC Club Champion Award for the 2022/23 season with a points total of 140.66.

Congratulations also goes out to young Connor Burgess who collected the award for the Best Under 18’s Player at the Club. Connor had a remarkable season, finishing as the second leading wicket taker in his first season of A2’s cricket with 24 wickets @ 13.38.  He also had the second most dismissals with 11 catches and a run out. Not out of place in the A Grade T20 comp, he collected a further 4 wickets @ 18.75 with an excellent economy rate of just 5.36. Meanwhile, in Under 16’s he contributed 113 runs @ 37.67 and took 11 wickets @ 8.36 with a remarkable economy rate of 1.91 runs per over!

Finally, Jordan Baltman took home the prestigious Blight Perpetual Trophy for the Club Person of the Year. Named after the Blight family who of course were the longtime owners of “the Hill” (with club legend, the late Brian F. Blight & his son, Ian F. Blight ultimately donating the land to the club in 1995), the Blight Perpetual Trophy has been awarded each season since 1990/91 to acknowledge those who have made valuable contributions to the club in a behind the scenes/volunteer capacity.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support the club.  As we now head into the off season, we’re aiming to post semi-regular Past Player Profiles and Memorable Moments in the coming months so stay on the lookout for those.
