With only a week to go until the season gets underway, today we’re touching base with Wayne Cummins.
A former Nairne Cricket Club player for a number of years, who also had a short stint at Macclesfield, Wayno was lured out of retirement to join the Echidnas in 2020/21 and has been a regular player ever since.
A wicketkeeper and attacking left-handed batter, Wayne made an immediate impact in his debut season, scoring an unbeaten 105 from 95 deliveries in a match against Woodside, whilst showing outstanding skill as a keeper, collecting a whopping 18 catches (together with a couple of stumpings), including taking 5 catches in a match!
Since arriving at the Hill, Wayne has scored 660 runs at 19.41, with 3 50s and the one 100. Fielding predominately behind the stumps, he has collected 40 catches, 3 stumpings and 4 run outs in only 43 matches and has also collected a couple of wickets on the rare occasion that he has been able to roll the arm over.
Go well Wayno!
