2023/24 Presentation Dinner

It was Awards Season last Saturday night as we kept the event local, heading over to the Wistow Hall for the 2023/24 end of season presentation dinner.

MC’d by President Brayden Leckie and very well attended (winning 3 Premierships probably helps with attendance ???? ), including by living life members Robin “Pud” Crompton, Michael “Pickle” Paech, Damien “Moose” Nettle & Derrick Smith, we trust that a good night was had by all.

Plenty of hands were shaken and trophies given out. The biggest winner of the night was undoubtedly our young “Puggle”, Connor Burgess, who started the night by being crowned with the A2s Batting Aggegrate & Average (583 runs @ 44.85) and Bowling Aggregate (22 wickets) Trophies. Connor was also crowned as the Leading Runscorer in A2s this season at the Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket Association Presentation Dinner a week or so earlier, quite the achievement for a 16 year old who batted at No. 11 until this season!

Connor’s night wasn’t done there, however, as in addition to being awarded a miniature bat to commemorate his maiden century during the season, Connor also took home the award for Best Under 18 Player (for the 2nd season in a row) and finished the night being crowned as our 2023/24 Club Champion.

Meanwhile, the prestigious Blight Perpetual Trophy for the Club Person of the Year went to life member and former longtime Club President, Michael “Pickle” Paech, for a record 7th time. Named after the Blight family who were the longtime owners of “the Hill” (with club legend, the late Brian F. Blight & his son, Ian F. Blight ultimately donating the land to the club in 1995), the Blight Perpetual Trophy has been awarded each season since 1990/91 to acknowledge those who have made valuable contributions to the club in a behind the scenes/volunteer capacity.

Other big achievers included:

Jason Rehn, who won the C Grade Batting Aggregrate & Average Trophy with 654 runs @ 59.45 – breaking the Club record for most runs in a season in C Grade;

– Damin Biddle & Mitch Westrych, who became the 1st & 2nd players in Club history to score a century in Under 16s;
– Jaxon Lynn, who won the U16s Batting Average Trophy with a remarkable average of 161.00 (having been dismissed just twice). Jaxon also took home the Best Fielder Trophy in both Cs & U16s;

– Holly Paech, who proved that she is just as good as the boys (if not better!), winning both the U16s Bowling Aggregate & Average Trophies with 15 wickets @ 8.20; and

– Jesse Nunan, who cleaned up in U14s, winning the Batting Aggregate & Average (251 runs @ 35.86), Most Catches (15 – as a non-wicketkeeper!!!!) and Best Fielder Trophies.
