Congratulations to Ryan J. Watt (Ryno/Watto) who played his 100th senior match for the WCC on 21 December 2024.
Ryan is the first of a handful of players on track to play their 100th match this season. He joins an exclusive club of only 51 players to have played at least 100 senior matches for the Echidnas & is one of just six (6) active players to have done so (along with Michael “Pickle” Paech, Jordan Baltman, Hayden Bolto, Oliver Lukins & Cameron Roach).
A pace bowler & power hitting lower order batter who continues to improve each season, Ryno first turned out for the Echidnas on a handful of occasions during each of the 2015/16 & 2016/17 seasons before becoming a regular player since 2019/20.
Ryan has really established himself in the last season & a half under the captaincy of Harrison Burgess, taking 21 wickets @ 17.62 in last year’s A2s Premiership side & is off to an even better start this year as he has headed into the mid-season break with 16 wickets @ 13.44.
Watto is also active behind the scenes, having served on the committee for the last couple of seasons, including as Vice President this season, and is responsible for our annual Gourmet BBQ night.
Ryan’s connection to the club is through his marriage into the famous Paech family of Wistow, who have featured at least nine (9) seniors players (including current players, Michael “Pickle” Paech & Holly Paech) who have combined for 25 premierships and over 16,000 runs, 400 wickets & 600 catches!
Well done Ryno!
