Today we’re going to take a look at a game which features both the highest team and individual scores in club history.
To set the scene, we’re travelling back to the dog days of February during the 2008/09 season when the B Grade travelled to the now disused Davenport Square to take on Maccy. Bolts lost the toss with Maccy deciding to bat first. Recovering from 7/133, Maccy ultimately posted a seemingly competitive total of 243 from 65.4 overs.
Striding to the crease at 1/37, Simon Nunan proceeded to punish the Maccy bowlers to all parts, first putting on a partnership of 111 with Michael “Pickle” Paech (33) for the 2nd wicket and then a staggering partnership of 244 with Liam Bentley (49) for the 3rd wicket before finally being dismissed for 260, an innings featuring a ridiculous 32 fours and 17 sixes and having singlehandedly beaten Maccy’s team total.
However, my favourite stat from this game is that despite Noons’ absurb score of 260, he actually scored less than half of the team total as Wistow batted the game out to finish at 6/594 from 74 overs (a run rate of 8 an over) with other major contributions coming from Ross Brooks (a career high 73*) and a 15 year old Mitch Hein (a career high 66*) who also combined to put on an unbeaten 127 for the 7th wicket.
Maccy – 10/243 (65.4 overs)
Noons 4/70 (18)
Jed Cox 3/37 (13)
Wistow – 6/594 (74 overs)
Noons 260
Ross Brooks 73*
Mitch Hein 66*
