Today we’ve got our C’s mid-season review.
With only veterans Jason Rehn & Jordan Baltman returning from last season’s C’s premiership side, they have been joined by a combination of returning veterans together with numerous juniors. Despite being a development side, the C’s have had a strong first half & sit 3rd on the ladder at 6-3, with one of the losses being due to a forfeit. Whilst they are just percentage out of the Top 2, they are also just a win above 5th place as there are just two wins separating the teams between 2nd & 7th in what has largely been a very even C Grade comp so far.
There have been plenty of highlights, particularly:-
• Jase’s two (2) centuries, 125 retired from 99 balls at Woodside, and 101 from 44 at Echunga Small, taking him to four (4) centuries for Wistow and twelve (12) for his career;
• Declan Bell’s performance in the opening round, making 73 from 84 balls (as part of a 180 run partnership with Jase for the 2nd wicket), taking 3/7 from 4 overs & taking 2 catches. Unsurprisingly, that was his last game of C’s;
• The nail-biting three (3) run victory against Echunga when the C’s almost failed to defend 255;
• Bobby Hennessy’s spell of bowling against Nairne, taking 3/4 from 6 overs to almost steal the game despite the Echidnas only defending 92 (& with Bob having earlier made 30* to help post a score after the C’s had been 5/39 & 7/63);
• U16 Mason Clohesy’s crucial 24 from 35 against Lenswood coming hot on the heels of a 12* from 16 the previous match;
• The steady performance of opening bowler Jordan Baltman, highlighted by outstanding figures of 5-4-2-2 in his 300th match. Jordan has taken 9 wkts @ 9.11 with a miserly economy rate of 2.7. Despite only bowling 30 overs in C’s (due to a couple of games in B’s & an injury), Jordan leads the Association with 13 maidens;
• The steady development of U16, Theo Kathigits-Wood who has opened the batting all season & proved a perfect foil for his uncle Jase, with the two having several significant opening stands of 129, 71 & 58;
• The development of U14, Riley Heard, highlighted by his 10 from 18 & 1/9 from 4 overs performance against Langhorne Creek;
• Holly & Michael Paech not only playing together, but batting together several times. Surely a caught M. Paech bowled H. Paech dismissal is not too far away;
• John Levy’s slips catching & John & son Ned again playing together;
• The reliable performances of skipper Travis Lynn with both the bat and the ball; and
• Geoffrey Lynn repeatedly breaking his own record for oldest player in club history to take a catch.
FIRST HALF MVP
With honourable mentions to the veteran trio of Bobby Hennessy, Travis Lynn & Jordan Baltman, the standout to date has been Jason Rehn. In addition to his two (2) centuries, Jase has already scored 422 runs @ 70.33 to lead the Comp. He is also quietly the C’s 3rd leading wickettaker with 6 wkts @ 17 in only 17 overs.
